Mia Bieringer
Attending the University of Florida (UF) and participating in the International Scholars Program (ISP) has been instrumental in broadening my perspectives and shaping me into a more well-rounded individual. Through a combination of coursework and immersive experiences, UF and ISP have provided me with invaluable opportunities to explore global health, culture, and various aspects of international studies.
One of the most impactful aspects of my journey at UF has been the diverse array of courses offered through the ISP curriculum. Courses focusing on global health and culture have not only expanded my understanding of these topics but have also encouraged me to view issues through a more holistic and culturally sensitive lens. These classes have challenged me to think critically about the interconnectedness of global issues and the importance of cultural competency in addressing them.

Furthermore, the opportunity to study abroad in three different countries has been transformative. Despite facing financial constraints that might have deterred me elsewhere, UF's commitment to providing resources and support for study abroad made these experiences possible. Immersing myself in different cultures and environments has not only enriched my academic experience but has also fostered personal growth and resilience. Each study abroad experience has presented unique challenges and opportunities for learning, ultimately contributing to my development as a more adaptable and culturally aware individual.
In addition to my own study abroad experiences, becoming a Study Abroad Peer Advisor has allowed me to play a role in facilitating similar transformative experiences for other students. By sharing my own experiences and providing guidance to fellow peers, I have had the privilege of witnessing the transformative power of international education firsthand. These interactions have not only reinforced my passion for intercultural exchange but have also enabled me to form lasting connections with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Overall, my journey at UF and participation in the International Scholars Program have played a pivotal role in shaping my identity and worldview. Through coursework, study abroad experiences, and involvement as a Study Abroad Peer Advisor, I have gained a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of our global community and the importance of fostering understanding and empathy across cultural boundaries. I am grateful for the opportunities afforded to me at UF and am confident that the lessons learned and connections made will continue to influence my personal and professional endeavors in the future.
